GABBY MONZO

New recruit signing
NJ catcher Gabriella Monzo
joins the Wesley Wolverines

The first day of college classes are almost four weeks away and Gabriella “Gabby” Monzo, a Mainland Regional High Mustang from her hometown of Somers Point, New Jersey, is excited to become a Wesley Wolverine!

“She is a multi-year all-conference selection who has a powerful bat and can command at the plate,” notes Wolverine Head Coach Juli Greep.

Gabby Monzo
Her fastpitch resume also includes recognition as a Mid-Atlantic Region Championship Catcher, twelve-time travel-ball tournament MVP, and three-time Little League State Championship Catcher. Her club teammates are the South Jersey Gators Gold.

“She is a knowledgeable catcher and possess the skills needed to be an extremely valuable member of our squad,” adds Coach Greep.

Besides catching, Gabby is comfortable at the diamond’s corners, easily handing either the hot third base or the extended stretch from the first base bag. In high school, she has been no stranger to the basketball and volleyball courts, too.

Twice Gabby has been recognized with the Umpires Pin for outstanding leadership, which she has proved doubly deserving especially off the field. She’s been active in the Support Our Troops Club, has been a Challenger Sports Volunteer and Ambassadors Club member.

She also has earned several prestigious academic accolades, most notably a National Honor Society distinction.

There are utility players and then there’s Katie Dunlap, an incoming fastpitch freshman Wesley Wolverine for the 2018-19 collegiate season.

Katie Dunlap
“Katie is a three time Henlopen All-Conference player, and a 2018 Delaware first-team All-State Honoree,” boasts Wesley Head Coach Juli Greep.

Her utility assignments include the starting pitcher’s role, while, when not hurling Ks, she’s capable of easily covering every bag around the pitcher’s circle: e.g., holding down either the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd base positions, as well.

“Katie will allow us to have significant depth at a number of positions making our team much more dynamic,” adds Coach Greep.

Blue-Gold All-Star game played
Wednesday evening, June 13, 2018.
At the plate, Katie has batted as high as a .500 average for a season with the varsity Dover High Senators, where she played for the past four years.

“She swings a strong bat and will add significant power to our line up,” says Coach Greep.

Her travel-ball team is the Delaware Diamonds Black 18U. During the past summers, she also has frequently participated in the USSSA Delaware State Championships at Roxana, DE.

In the classroom, she is an honor roll student.

“We will now have four first team all-state players on the squad: Katie, Jess (Anderson), Brandi (Dalious) and Ashley (Royer),"notes Coach Greep.

There is a photo file online where this blog stores a collection of fastpitch Wolverine graphic art. Most of it has been posted at this blog, though others were NOT used because they are duplicates or contain a small error of one kind or another.

Then, there also are the graphics posted below.

These – the graphics below – have been waiting in line for an appropriate post. It never happened. So, they are shared now before the regular season ends in the next few days.
