EARLY STATS

After just 3 games…
Wolverines off to good start
among early conference leaders

It’s far too early to check stats – and everything can change this early in the season with a performance of any kind from anyone on any team in a SINGLE game.

So, stats mean very little at this point.

Still, just for fun, check out the conference leaders at this instant in time (i.e., Wednesday evening). Again, everyone’s position and numbers can be radically scrambled as the games played begin to mount. Excepting Penn State- Harrisburg, the Wolverines also have played less games to date than their rivals.

The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) leaders are at http://www.cacsports.com/sports/sball/2017-18/leaders.

HOME RUNS: Sophomore #7 OF/C Brandi Dalious (Harrington, DE) leads the conference with 2 home runs.

STOLEN BASES: Senior #99 OF Lauren Hoffman (Bear, DE) is tied for the lead in stolen bases with 3 swipes.

SAVES: Freshman #4 P/ UT Abbey Mayse (Cecilton, MD) has the only save in the league so far.

STRIKEOUTS: Freshman #25 P/ 1B Dori Loukopoulos (Chambersburg, PA) is tied for the lead in wins with 2 and sits at fifth in strikeouts with 10 Ks.

BATTING AVERAGE: Brandi and freshman #1 MI Bianca Newsom (Edison, NJ) are tied for fourth place in hitting with each holding a .500 average. Junior #13 UT Ashley Royer (Lititz, PA) is tied for 10th with her .455 average.

FIELDING FPCT: The Wesley Wolverines lead all teams with a .981 fielding percentage. (Click here for team stats.)

GIVING DAY 2-28

Dear Wesley Softball Alumni, family and friends,

The Wesley College Softball Program is partnering with “Wesley Giving Day” on February 28th to raise funds for a new outdoor batting cage. We would like to raise enough money to have a permanent cage with concrete and turf flooring with enough room for two tunnels. This will allow our players to have the opportunity to do individual outside of practice skill work if they so choose, as well as increase our ability to have high quality practices.

Coach Greep

We are very excited about our opportunity to compete in the newly developed Atlantic East Conference starting in the 2018-2019 season. Our goal which we believe is realistic and achievable is to win the first AEC Softball Title. Only one team gets to forever hang that banner, and we want to proudly display it at DuPont Field. We know that winning this title has as much to do with our current team members as the ones who have come before us, and we want to thank each of you for the your diligent efforts throughout the years. Our success is a part of your legacy!

We ask that you please consider making a donation of any size to the continued growth and development of our program. We hope to see you out at the field for a game this spring.

WOLVERINES @ "GREEN SCREEN"

168 "outtake" photos
Wolverines pose on green screen,
promoting countdown to the opener

If you have been watching the photo countdown to opening day at the Wesley College Softball Facebook and Instagram pages, you’ll notice that the players have all been superimposed on many different graphics backgrounds.

This series of photographs was made possible by shooting the Wolverine players under professional lighting against a green screen, a device by which the photo’s background can be easily replaced digitally by another photo or graphic of scenery.

Our Wolverines were arranged in a variety of poses by Head Coach Juli Greep who also created the final digital photographs with the new backgrounds that were posted online. Coach Greep holds the secret to safely setting a softball on fire.

The actual photography for the day and the setup of special lighting was handled by Wesley’s Director of Sports information Cyrill Parham.

SWARTHMORE PREVIEW

Visiting this Saturday...
Swarthmore Garnet building
on last season's improvement

This Saturday, February 24, marks the home doubleheader season opener for the Wesley Wolverine fastpitch team. The games are scheduled to be played at 12:00 noon and 2:00 PM on the DuPont Softball Field, GPS: 500 Mary Street, Dover, DE.

Here's a thumbnail look at the opening day visiting team, Swarthmore Garnet, picked up from the Centennial Conference's 2018 softball preview...

"KEY RETURNEES: (CATCHER/INFIELDER #12) Kennedy Kings, So... 1st Team All-CC, 2017 CC Rookie of the Year, .368-1 HR-18 RBI; (CATCHER/OUTFIELDER #24) Emilie Morse, So... HM Team All-CC, .306-1 HR-19 RBI; (INFIELDER #11) Elizabeth Curcio, Jr... .275-11 RBI;(PITCHER/OUTFIELDER #10) Marisa Mancini, So... .279-16 RBI; (INFIELDER #21) Kalli Segel, So... .327-2 HR-10 RBI; (PITCHER/INFIELDER #20) Emily Bowman, Sr... 7-6, 74 K.
"OUTLOOK: Swarthmore was improved last season and hopes to continue to climb the Conference rankings in 2018. Kings, the 2017 CC Rookie of the Year, returns for her sophomore campaign and is joined by Morse and Segel, all of which hit over .300 last season. In the circle, Bowman returns to lead the Garnet. If Swarthmore is able to adjust to the new system under (new Head Coach Melissa) Finley, the Garnet should be improved this season."

The Wolverines will play a second doubleheader on the following day, Sunday, February 25, versus the Gallaudet Bison, also at 12:00 Noon and 2:00 PM on DuPont Field.
