Doubleheader today is preview of
next season’s Atlantic East Conference
The Immaculata Mighty Macs arrived in Dover today with a 3-7 record for a doubleheader against the Wesley Wolverines at DuPont Softball Field at 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
The games are a preview of next year’s new Atlantic East Conference which both teams will join later this July.
The Mighty Macs’ three wins in this early season have been impressive. All have been won on the road.
Immaculata split an opening day doubleheader with nearby Washington College Shorewomen, winning the nightcap 1-0 on a 2-hitter that went 8 innings.
Two days later, Immaculata took the first of two games from the Lynchburg Hornets by a 9-8 tally in another 8 inning contest. (At the time, Lynchburg had been voted #19 in the nation, but the Hornets have since slipped from the top 25 ranks.)
The next day, Mighty Macs scored their third win over the Capital Athletic Conference’s (CAC’s) Salisbury Sea Gulls in a 6-5 nail-biter. (The Wolverines will play the Sea Gulls in a conference doubleheader at home in two weeks, Saturday, April 7.)
Immaculata did drop both ends of a doubleheader against the Swarthmore Garnet, losing 1-2 and 2-6. The Wolverines narrowly beat Swarthmore 4-3 in the front end of our opening day home doubleheader before losing the second game 8-4.
Immaculata is batting .284 with OBP of .344 and slugging .376. The Mighty Mac’s team ERA is 4.57.
Wesley is batting .374 with OBP of .429 and slugging .506. Wolverine hurlers hold a 3.59 ERA.
