Below is an interesting chart prepared by Ohio University about the costs and benefits of high school athletics.

► Note the ROI of school athletics (found at bottom of graphic): ■higher salaries, ■2x as likely to pursue future education, ■future employment more likely & exhibiting significantly higher levels of ■leadership, ■self-confidence, and ■self-respect.
► As to the monetary cost of sports, this graphic does not seem to account for travel-ball/ club team expenses for any of the sports. Regardless, the points made still seem valid.
► Also, softball costs probably equate fairly closely to the price of baseball equipment, which is listed here as the “most expensive” sport.
